Seth, the way Krieg and I do this is that we get all dps from our server… not cross-server randoms… So, yes, we do group with the same people several times.

I have paid tanks for instant queues while leveling my alt. I offer a fair amount and only pay once the run is finished. Shelling out some pocket change is worth skipping the line for me.

Sure working as a pocket healer is fine Orestia, but you barely or rarely ever meet people from the server doing randoms. Its cross-server queues, so you quite possibly never group with these people ever again.

I usually act as Krieg’s “pocket-healer” and I somewhat enjoy meeting new people on the server this way. It also gives better players the chance to “pay-it-forward” and help the newbs on their rotation/techniques!

I’ve never payed for tank services and back when I played a tank (very very long time ago) I never charged either. Granted I don’t charge for anything, even old enchants that very few people have, and I generally tell people to take money of the window when they try to tip me.

I’m probably a rare exception to the rule, but being as this is a social game played by mostly capitalists, this will happen more and more. I’d say get used to it.

Of course, I don’t need randoms anymore so my opinion probably doesn’t count for much.

I’m a big fan of playing with people you like. I’ve been in the same situation as you Sev and luckily at the time had a healer in the group who was pro as hell. So I just righteous fury it up and let the rejuv’s tick me (us) through to victory. It seems like 75% of the time you wind up in a random group that is poorly geared and the other 25% of the time you get a douche who thinks his crap doesn’t stink. The main thing to remember is that the people who think that they are too good to run with the peons of the world of warcraft are also real people as well, I feel more sorry for them than anything because they need real life help if the only way they feel good is to bring down others.

As for paying for a tank, I never have, not that I haven’t thought about it when gearing up my alts, but I would rather an instance not succeed and requeue than pay someone for their services. Again, the game has a built in mechanic to prevent this sort of thing, and it is called getting into a guild that works together for a common goal. If you need a leveling guild get into that, if you want a guild that puts raiding at its heading get into a raiding guild, and if you RP well there are guilds for that. The main thing to remember is that if you want to go further in this game you need to establish relationships. Or pick up multiboxing and learning to tank, heal, and dps instances solo.

Waiting in queue can take upwards of 15 minutes as dps. Adding a tank is almost an instant heroic. Paying a small amount of gold for the lack of queue alone is worth it in my opinion.

The worst case scenario I’ve seen from this, is mid-instance. It wasn’t me personally, but what happened to this guy was he joined a CoT: Strat for his random heroic. After they finally made their way to the beginning of the ridicuously long RP event, the tank in the group used a block of text macro basically saying that if they didn’t give him some sort of payment, he would go and fish from the river. Naturally, you can’t trade gold cross servers, and their kick CD was up(iirc) so they were kinda shit outta luck. I believe what they did was continue on, using a plate DPS they had in the group to tank, and the actual tank sat near the river in the instance, and fished.

I’m perfectly fine with hiring a tank, because it means that A.) He’s reliable, and B.) The instance will finish quickly. I won’t pay any outrageous prices, and I won’t consider it if the tank is poorly geared/skilled, etc.

One thing I can’t stand is when the tank or healer says “oh DPS are a dime-a-dozen, who cares, we’ll just replace you within 30 seconds.” Yes, DPS are in high supply, but a smart DPS is a bit more rarer, and we’re just as important in a group as the tank or healer. You’re just as likely to get an idiot DPS, wearing tanking gear, or spellpower gear, or gemming for spirit, etc, as you are in getting a correctly geared/gemmed DPS.
